Document your Daily Joy

Hello fabulous you!!! Happy Friday. Hope you’re well and feeling great!!!

I’ve started to really love making lists, my new journaling obsession. Especially now during these trying times while dealing with this pandemic, which is hard enough, I’m also dealing with a health issue and all I want is easy, light, happy things. I want JOY. If you’ve been following me you know that I talk a lot about joy, but here’s a new way that I discovered that really makes me happy.

Every morning I set the intention to find joy that day.  It doesn’t have to be big, it doesn’t have to be extravagant or perfect or approved by anyone. When I go over my day in my planner, the first thing I do is make a small space for my – daily joy –  I’m looking at the things that occupy my day and make my heart smile. Things like cleaning out my closet, grocery shopping. Dinner with my son. Even something as simple as getting a package in the mail from Amazon, makes me happy. I sometimes order a couple of things at the same time so, it’s like getting a present I never know what’s inside.

Purposely looking for and documenting my daily joy has become a way to pause, look inward and be in the moment, and I really love writing them down in my journal. Some days my ‘daily joy’ list can be one thing and other days it can be three or five.  The amount doesn’t really matter, what matters is that I was present and connected with myself and something greater than me that day, and I wrote it down and that makes me so happy.

The choice of finding joy in something as simple as peeling a potato lies within you, joy is your choice.

Lists are an easy and simple way of documenting and noticing your days, you can look back and see things that you would perhaps not remember. This list making has become a support system for me, when I’m having one of those days, when I’m feeling anxious, I can look at my lists and find comfort. Liz Lamoreux put it best “Making lists, noticing the little things, paying attention to what is greater than me and what is within me, well, these things have become an anchor.”

So, here’s my invitation to you. Join me in making your own daily list, it’s a way of looking inward and noticing yourself, of really being present with yourself and uncovering the joy in the every day.

For me, this is a part of my daily self-care, it’s what makes me feel good and nourishes my soul. I love it.

I hope this post inspires, and serves you. Share your thoughts and leave a comment below, I’d love to read it.
