What if You Gave Thanks Throughout the Day

Hello wonderful you,

“Gratefulness is a knowing awareness that we are the recipients of goodness.” Robert Emmons

We’ve all heard of keeping a gratitude journal and write 3-5 things at the end of day that we’re grateful for and that’s a good practice but, to be honest, this practice doesn’t always feel satisfying to me. But…

What if we were to give thanks for the little things that show up throughout the day, how would that change us, what in us would it change.

What if we started to be grateful for the little things and say it, declare it in the moment so it’s a part of our days. You don’t really have to do anything, just notice and give thanks.

I’m so grateful to be able to sit and have lunch peacefully.

I’m so grateful that I can go food shopping by myself.

What if you gave thanks for your job and said ‘thank you’ when on your way every day. What feeling would that give you?

What if you gave thanks for the medication that is helping you feel better, for the haircut, for the socks keeping your feet warm, how would that change your experience in the days?

How would your days unfold, with gratitude sown into them?

Giving thanks throughout the day has opened me up to finding more wonder and delight in the everyday little things, like having a moment to indulge in a cup of coffee. Giving thanks makes me aware of what I’m doing, I smell the aroma of the coffee, I think of all the people it took for me to be able to have this and I am grateful for them. I become aware of the cup, my favorite to sip coffee from, I love the colors of the cup and I love the way the coffee feels in my mouth, one sip at a time, this all makes me so happy and giving thanks tunes me into the happiness this one simple act makes me feel. And, let me just say that I am not perfect, there are days that I don’t even think of gratitude, that I totally forget.  And then it’s always a joy when I catch myself and realize that oh, I haven’t paid attention. I haven’t been present; I haven’t let the universe know how I feel.

Finding the little things in the day to be grateful for, makes me more aware of kindness to myself and to others. I’ve become more aware of my surroundings and the little things that make up my days and matter in my life. I find also that I’m more joyful and respectful of the things that surround me. This daily gratitude of the simple things has made me more appreciative of what I have and less wasteful. I notice the blessings that are mine.

Gratitude is a divine act that aligns you with universal good.

My invitation for you today – Have you noticed that the more you complain the more you have things to complain about? That’s how it works with gratitude also, the more you’re grateful, the more things will come into your life to be grateful for. Start with one thing, be present and notice one thing in your day, one ordinary thing that is meaningful and you can say you’re grateful for it.

Well, that’s it for today. I hope this blog post serves you and inspires you. Leave a comment love to hear from you.

Wishing you a happy, bright and blessed week ahead ✴︎

  1. Great reminder. I try. However as your day gets busy you forget to be grateful for the little things. The busier you get the more you forget. Then days turn into weeks. So thank you Masha for the reminder. The great thing about being thankful for the little things, is that it leads to being grateful for the little things that others do for you. Which then helps provide the opportunity to think and say thank you to others for the small things they do for you. So again I say thank you Masha for making sure I don’t forget to be grateful today.

    1. Hello Kay, so happy to see you here, I noticed that you took some time off, I am actually too, I really needed it, I’m still not back yet but am thinking of returning soon. Thanks for your kind words, I started teaching myself how to paint and that’s a flower I did, so I’m using it for my header 🙂 Have a beautiful day and a beautiful week ahead ❤️

      1. I completely understand the need to take some time! You need to fill your tanks to have something to share. I have enjoyed having a few months of not having to create, just being able to absorb. I hope you are enjoying the same :-).
