The Benefits of Buying Yourself Flowers

Everything has a reason and a purpose in this universe and flowers are no exception, they are magical, mystical beings that support and love us in many ways.

When I bring fresh flowers home, I can feel a change in energy as soon as I walk in, I can feel the atmosphere change.  Actually, I can feel something as soon as I start looking at them in the store, something changes energetically in my body.  My heart opens, I’m overcome with a feeling of joy and love, there’s a calm that comes over me and they put a smile on my face.

For years I sat and waited for someone else to bring me flowers, I never thought of flowers being something that I can give to myself, it was something that someone else gave you for a special occasion.  Once when I was visiting a friend I noticed that she had flowers in a couple of places in her home and when I asked who got her the flowers she said no one, she bought them herself.  It was like a light bulb turned on in my head.  WOW!, I love flowers so much but I never thought of buying them for myself.

I’ve been buying myself flowers ever since.  Although I have to admit that there are times that I have flowers every week, and than there are times, and I don’t know why, that I stop for a while, but they have become a part of my overall self-care/self-love must have, and I never go for too long without them.

Just some of the benefits – flowers can brighten up a room and your mood.  Because they oxygenate the air, they help our concentration and memory, which in turn boosts our brain cells and makes us feel better.

Just looking at them the color, the loveliness makes us feel happy and peaceful.

They can also have a fundamental impact on our health, they reduce stress, aid in helping us have peace of mind, sleep better and just overall feel better.  They help us feel less anxious or depressed. And they even have the power to increase our productivity and boost our creativity, and who doesn’t want that?

We’re blessed to have different flowers for every season, and I love having them in my home.  It’s become a part of my ritual of welcoming in a new season and I feel more connected with nature in their presence, oh and one other thing, they raise the energy and vibration all around me.  If you’re thinking that you have to spend a lot of money on them, you don’t.  I usually buy them in the supermarket and the price is usually less than $10, I bought the ones in the first picture for $6.99.

I hope I’ve inspired you to buy yourself flowers, make them a part of your self-care/self-love ritual and feel their magical mystical powers embrace you.

A Simple Way to Create a Little Altar

I love creating small altars that I can place around my home, they always fill me with great joy, like this little altar that I’m using as a table scape, that captures the season in a magical way for me.

You don’t have to spend a lot of money or go all fancy, just collect items that you already have.  Let yourself be guided by your spirit and put together things that are meaningful to you, and feels good to you.

I used a serving platter and put pine cones that I’ve had for a couple of years, some of my crystals, the green branches from the flowers I bought yesterday, three tea candles, something I always have in my home, and the inspiration rock I bought for 99 cents at Hobby Lobby.

Every time I walk by it, I stop and allow it to work its magic and I say thank you, or I’ll say a little blessing.  For me this is a sacred act of self-care, a moment in which I can get lost into and receive the gifts of Spirit.

I hope I’m inspiring you to create your own magical altar and I’d love it if you share it here in the comments.

Blessed Samhain

I love celebrating the different seasons, and right now I feel a very strong calling towards connecting with Mother Earth and my ancestors through ritual and ceremony.

Giving thanks, honoring and celebrating our ancestors, bringing their spirit forward is a powerful way to connect with the spirits in this world and the otherworld.

With Samhain we mark the end of the harvest season and the beginning of winter, opening up a deep season of inner beauty.  I wanted to share with you my altar of celebrating my ancestors and honoring them.

ancestral alter

I have Our Lady of Guadalupe who is with me always. This is a picture of my mother and father, and I am in the picture eating an apple, I was 18 months old here. I don’t have any photos of my family, they were all killed during the holocaust, but I can feel their spirit present here with me. I have an apple on my altar because my mother loved apples and ate one every day. I have a small stone (I stole from the cemetery, but don’t tell anyone) from my fathers grave site. I also have fresh rosemary to remove negativity and bring in Mother Earth.  A white feather I found outside just a few weeks ago, and a few of my crystals.

Last night my beautiful, precious Labradorite fell out of my hand and chipped a piece and I’m feeling so upset.  This was really not planned this way, it just happened that this morning I had a conversation with the beautiful Lori A Andrus, about something unrelated, but knowing her background i just had to ask, she’s a practitioner of crystal Shamanism, an artist, she hosts the Chrystal Shaman Life podcast, and if you haven’t heard it, you must, you can find her over here She told me the stone is supporting me, maybe there’s something I need to let go of and that I should ask for clarity and blessings.  I will be doing a ritual today to ask for clarity and I’m anxious to see what comes forward for me, what messages I will receive.

My altar will probably evolve a bit more, but I hope that, if you are not already creating an ancestral altar, that you are inspired to start one.

I’d love to hear from you, what your practice is and see a picture of your altar, if you wish to share, you can post in the comment section below.
